Building a cleaner Fiji starts with our children.
Following the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s donation of compost bins, compost buckets and gardening tools to Naikawaga Kindergarten School in Tailevu, the Ministry’s officers visited the school in the village to conduct hands-on composting awareness and training for parents as part of the School Waste Management Initiative.
Parents were encouraged to teach their children to separate organic waste at home and bring it to school, where it would be turned into compost using the school’s compost bin. Six students each received a compost bucket to begin practising composting from home.
Children were given tote bags and reusable water bottles to support environmentally responsible habits.
The training equips families with practical knowledge on reducing household waste while teaching children the importance of recycling and caring for the environment from an early age.
The Ministry believes environmental stewardship begins at home and in our schools. By empowering children with simple everyday actions such as composting and waste separation, we are nurturing a generation that values civic pride, protects the environment and leads Fiji towards a more sustainable future.
