After years of challenges in collecting and coordinating climate data, Fiji has taken a major step forward with the launch of the Fiji Digital Climate Transparency Tool, designed to make reporting faster, more efficient and sustainable.
Launching the tool in Suva today (28:04:2026), Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Hon. Lynda Tabuya said Fiji has faced persistent difficulties over the years in compiling accurate and timely climate data across different sectors.
“For years, one of the most significant challenges in meeting our climate reporting obligations has been the production, coordination, and compilation of data,” the Minister stated.
“Collecting, validating, and compiling sectoral greenhouse gas activity data in a standardised, timely, and accurate manner has required enormous effort from our line ministries, our technical officers, and our development partners. Tonight, we take a decisive step forward in making that process smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable.”
The FDCTT is designed to bring all greenhouse gas emissions data into a single digital system. It allows line ministries to directly enter, validate, and regularly update their sectoral data within a single, secure digital platform.
Describing the tool as a “statement of national intent”, Hon. Tabuya said the tool reflects Fiji’s broader commitment to accountability and stronger climate governance.
“It demonstrates to the world that Fiji is serious about transparency. That we hold ourselves to the highest standards of accountability. That we will continue to lead, to advocate, and to act for our people and for future generations.”
The Fiji Digital Climate Transparency Tool was developed under the Fiji Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) Project, in collaboration with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and with support from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as the implementing agency of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The Minister acknowledged development partners and government focal points who contributed to the system’s development and participated in training ahead of its rollout.
She said the government will continue working with partners to improve and integrate the platform with existing systems, ensuring continuous data updates rather than periodic reporting alone.
GGGI Pacific Regional Director Mr. Sakiusa Tuisolia said the FDCTT will ensure that Fiji remains a leader in meeting its international reporting obligations under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement.
The Ministry remains committed to advancing global partnership with development partners to bringing greater outcomes for the communities
