Fiji and Denmark Deepen Talks on Climate Cooperation and Regional Partnership

Opportunities to strengthen cooperation on climate action and Pacific engagement were the key discussions during a bilateral meeting between the Minister for Environment and Climate Change Hon. Lynda Tabuya and Non-Resident Ambassador of Denmark to Fiji, Her Excellency Ms Ingrid Dahl-Madsen today (29:04:2026).
The talks focused on enhancing collaboration ahead of key regional and international meetings, including Pre-COP, as well as broader support for climate priorities such as Denmark’s support to Pacific Island countries on loss and damage.
Ambassador Dahl-Madsen reaffirmed Denmark’s strong interest in working more closely with Pacific Island countries and expressed appreciation for Fiji’s leadership in advancing climate issues in regional and global forums.
She also highlighted Denmark’s interest in further engagement with Pacific regional processes, including ongoing dialogue on Denmark’s potential role as a strategic partner within the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) and potential participation of its minister in the PIF leaders meeting as a special guest.
The Minister welcomed Denmark’s continued support, particularly in strengthening climate resilience and ensuring greater access to climate finance for vulnerable countries. Hon. Tabuya also acknowledged the importance of inclusive participation in regional decision-making and valued Denmark’s willingness to deepen its engagement with the Pacific.
Both sides agreed to continue dialogue as Fiji prepares for upcoming Pre-COP and works with partners to advance shared climate priorities
