Fiji has reached an important milestone in reporting on the country’s progress in protecting its unique biodiversity.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change today (17.07.26) convened the National Validation Workshop for Fiji’s Seventh National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), bringing together representatives from Government, civil society, academia, development partners and the private sector.
The workshop follows nationwide consultations held across the Central, Western and Northern Divisions, as well as technical review meetings, where stakeholders shared data, experiences and recommendations. Today’s workshop provided the opportunity to validate the findings and ensure the report accurately reflects Fiji’s progress, achievements and remaining challenges in conserving biodiversity.
Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Sivendra Michael, acknowledges all stakeholders for their valuable contributions throughout the consultation process.
“This report is more than an international reporting requirement. It reflects Fiji’s collective commitment to protecting our biodiversity and ensuring our actions today safeguard our natural heritage for future generations.”
Once finalized, the report will be submitted to the Convention on Biological Diversity, where it will contribute to the global assessment of progress towards protecting nature and reversing biodiversity loss until 2030.
The Ministry acknowledges the continued support of NatureFiji-MareqetiViti, UNEP, GEF, Government ministries, development partners, civil society organizations, academia and all stakeholders whose collaboration has made this important milestone possible.
