“An approved project means little if a family is still at risk when the next storm hits.”
Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Hon. Lynda Tabuya delivered that message at the Solutions Dialogue on Financing Adaptation in the Era of Overshoot in New York.
She said Fiji’s National Adaptation Plan sets out what needs to be done. The challenge now is turning those priorities into funded projects that protect homes, livelihoods and ecosystems.
“Bankable does not always mean valuable,” Minister Tabuya said. She called for finance that can support smaller, locally led solutions while keeping communities at the centre of decisions.”
She also warned that adaptation has limits. Countries facing unavoidable harm need stronger support to address loss and damage.
“Judge climate finance by what happens on the ground: are our people safer when the next shock comes?”
