Dr. Sivendra Michael, Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, is Co-Chair of the Global Review Contact Group under Agenda Item 3 (Planning, Monitoring, Reporting and Review) at the Seventh Meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI-7), Nairobi.
Dr. Michael reiterated that this role is critical as all Parties to the Convention on Biological Convention need to agree on the way forward on the global review of collective progress toward the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at COP17, which will be held in Yervan, Armenia from 19-30 October, 2026.
As Chair of PSIDS, Fiji leads the region’s collective priorities in international environmental negotiations. The SBI-7 proceedings commenced today and is expected to conclude on 12th Aug.
“This appointment reflects the trust placed in Pacific leadership and our commitment to ensuring Small Island Developing States are heard in global decision-making,” Dr. Michael said.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change will continue advancing Fiji’s role in international environmental diplomacy.
