June Environment And Oceans Month Launched With Call For Fijians To Take Action

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change commemorated World Environment Day and World Oceans Day 2026 on Saturday, 6 June.
Close to 200 participants gathered at Suva Point Park for the launch of June Environment and Oceans Month, bringing together development partners, NGOs, academia, civil society organisations, volunteer groups, government ministries and members of the public.
From children picking up litter alongside their parents to volunteers collecting rubbish and planting coastal trees , the day highlighted the impact of collective action in protecting our environment.
The launch also marked the start of a month-long calendar of activities, including a National Oratory Competition, a National Poster Competition and a nationwide Community Beautification Competition. These competitions are open throughout June, with exciting prizes to be won and opportunities to be featured on Fiji Government social media platforms.
The Ministry acknowledges and thanks all partners, organizations, volunteers and participants whose support and commitment continue to drive positive environmental action across Fiji.
Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for all.
