Large community events should leave behind lasting memories, not piles of rubbish.
Minister for Environment and Climate Change Hon. Lynda Tabuya today handed over recyclable bags and hand gloves, donated by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, to the organisers of the Kadavu Provincial Solevu 2026 to support clean-up efforts throughout the two-day event at the Suva Foreshore.
Held under the theme “Protect, Value and Sustainably Use Our Natural Resources for the Benefit of Future Generations,” the Solevu has brought together a large number members from Kadavu province to celebrate their culture, traditions and community.
Hon. Tabuya said caring for the environment must remain a priority during and after every public gathering.
“A successful event is not only measured by the number of people who attend, but by the condition we leave our environment in when it ends.”
The Minister urged organizers and participants alike to take responsibility for cleaning up after events, stressing that protecting Fiji’s environment is a shared responsibility.
“We must end the culture of expecting someone else to pick up our rubbish. Every organizer and every participant has a role to play in leaving our parks, beaches and public spaces clean for the next person to enjoy.”
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change encourages all event organisers across Fiji to make clean-up activities part of every event and continue doing the right thing by protecting the environment for future generations.
