Meeting with Tongan Foreign Minister

With less than 40 days to go before Fiji hosts Pre-COP31, Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Hon. Lynda Tabuya has extended Fiji’s invitation to Tonga’s Prime Minister during a meeting with Tonga’s His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupoutoʻa ʻUlukalala, Minister for His Majesty’s Diplomatic Services and Minister for His Majesty’s Armed Forces, in Palau yesterday (31:08:2026).
The invitation highlights Fiji’s push to bring Pacific voices together ahead of COP31, with a focus on keeping the 1.5°C goal within reach, strengthening access to climate finance, advancing the ocean-climate nexus, and addressing adaptation and loss and damage faced by vulnerable Pacific communities.
Pre-COP31 will provide an opportunity for Pacific countries to strengthen their shared priorities and carry a united message into the global climate negotiations.
