TWG sets Fiji’s National Position for Pre-COP31

Following the stakeholder briefing on 16 September, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change convened its first Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting this week to discuss negotiation positions on UNFCCC agenda items for COP31.
The meeting brought together key government ministries and representatives from civil society, the private sector, academia, indigenous communities and youth to help identify and shape the priorities Fiji will take into the Pre-COP31 discussions.
Opening the meeting, Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Sivendra Michael, highlighted that the journey ahead will require dedicated hours of research and analysis, and key Ministries need to be forthcoming with the information to best co-develop the priorities to be pursued across various negotiation tracks.
The work of the TWG will continue next week until October end.
