Minister for Environment and Climate Change Hon Lynda Tabuya met with Return & Earn Fiji to discuss how they can work together to tackle litter, boost recycling, and support the development of Fiji’s national Container Deposit Scheme. Representing Return and Earn Fiji were Dwayne Halofaki with Dinesh Patel of Motibhai and Cate Pleass of Pleass Beverages.
Return & Earn Fiji is a recycling program by bottling and manufacturing companies that buys back empty plastic bottles and aluminum cans for 5 cents.
As the Ministry finalises the Container Deposit Regulations, the MECC team welcomed discussions on improving data, collection systems, and expanding recycling services to rural and maritime communities. Any future partnership will be guided by a transparent, government-led process that delivers environmental, economic, and social benefits for all Fijians.
Minister Tabuya thanked Return & Earn Fiji for their commitment and valuable insights. Solving Fiji’s waste challenge will require strong partnerships, innovation, and a shared commitment to a cleaner, greener Fiji.
