The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has successfully concluded its divisional stakeholder consultations on Fiji’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC3.0) Costed Implementation Plan (CIP), with the final workshop held in Labasa for the Northern Division today, 25.06.26.
The consultations, which began in the Central/Eastern Division and were followed by the Western and Northern Divisions, brought together government agencies, development partners, the private sector, academia, and key stakeholders to help shape Fiji’s climate action until 2035.
The workshops provided stakeholders with the opportunity to identify divisional priorities and projects that will support the implementation of Fiji’s NDC3.0 and contribute to achieving the country’s climate commitments.
Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Sivendra Michael, said meaningful climate action requires broad participation and strong partnerships.
“Strengthening ownership and inclusivity by involving diverse stakeholders in shaping Fiji’s climate action journey is key. Enhanced stakeholder ownership of Fiji’s climate action agenda will ensure the Costed Implementation Plan reflects the priorities and needs of communities across the country,” Dr. Michael said.
The Ministry will now consolidate recommendations and proposed projects into a draft Costed Implementation Plan, which will be presented during the upcoming stakeholder validation workshop.
The Ministry invites stakeholders to submit proposed climate projects that align with NDC3.0 targets before the end of June for consideration and possible inclusion in the CIP.
The CIP is a critical step in translating Fiji’s NDC3.0 commitments into practical, investment-ready projects that will strengthen climate resilience, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support sustainable development across the country.
The Ministry acknowledges the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the NDC Partnership in Fiji’s NDC3.0 Costed Implementation Plan.
