The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change yesterday met with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan to discuss areas of cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Permanent Secretary Dr Sivendra Michael, Director Climate Change Ms Senivasa Waqairamasi, and Mr Hideyuki Shiozawa of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.
Discussions focused on ocean governance, sustainable blue economy, climate resilience, science and policy support, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the foundation and the Government of Fiji.
MECC also provided a brief update on Fiji’s preparations to host the UNFCCC Pre-COP later this year.
Dr Michael said the Ministry welcomed the opportunity to work with partners whose work connects ocean, climate and island resilience.
β€œPartnerships that support research, policy dialogue and practical cooperation are important to the work that the Ministry continues to lead,” Dr Michael said.
MECC looks forward to continued engagement with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.
