The future of Fiji’s environment was on full display at Suva Point today (12:09:2026) as children were the majority of members of the Suva Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to take part in a community clean-up.
The Minister of Environment and Climate Change Hon. Lynda Tabuya handed over recyclable bags, hand gloves and hand sanitisers to support the clean up.
Hon Tabuya joined the children and church members in cleaning the foreshore, where a wide range of waste, including recyclable materials, discarded household, automotive and industrial items were collected.
Hon. Tabuya said much of the rubbish found along the foreshore was brought in by people picnicking in the area, while a lot of waste were washed up from rubbish carried downstream from rivers and streams into the Rewa Delta.
“When you’re dumping your rubbish in the rivers, they end up in the sea and then get washed up onto the Suva foreshore. So please Fiji, keep your rubbish where they belong and that is in your bins and dispose of them properly,” she said.
The Minister also highlighted the need for everyone to play their part in protecting Fiji’s natural environment.
