The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change welcomed the newly appointed Secretary‑General of the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF), Ms Arpana Pratap, in a courtesy call to discuss areas of collaboration.
The meeting provided an opportunity for Ms Pratap to introduce herself and outline PIDF’s mission as a platform for promoting green and blue economies across Pacific island countries through inclusive strategies and partnerships. PIDF also serves as a South‑South cooperation platform within the United Nations system.
MECC officials briefed Ms Pratap on Fiji’s Blue Economy Framework 2025–2035, which guides sustainable and climate‑resilient development of the ocean‑based economy across sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, maritime transport, renewable ocean energy and marine conservation.
The meeting provided an opportunity on how MECC and PIDF can work together to support sustainable ocean governance, climate resilience, carbon markets and community projects. He stressed that partnerships like PIDF help ensure that blue and green economy initiatives benefit Pacific communities and align with regional goals.
Both parties look forward to continued engagement as Fiji implements its blue and green economy policies and as PIDF supports sustainable development across the Pacific.
