REEL COMPETITION CRITERIA 2026
Concept Note: National Reels Competition 2026
The National Reels Competition 2026 is a youth-focused awareness initiative organized as part of Fiji’s commemoration of World Ozone Day and World Cleanup Day 2026. Anchored on the theme “Reel Real Action for Cooler and Cleaner Communities,” the competition encourages young people to creatively showcase actions that contribute to protecting the ozone layer, reducing pollution, managing waste responsibly, and promoting a cleaner environment. The competition directly supports the World Ozone Day theme, “Global Action for a Cooler Planet,” by raising awareness of environmentally responsible practices that help reduce harmful emissions and protect the atmosphere, while also aligning with the World Cleanup Day theme, “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities,” by inspiring practical solutions to waste reduction, recycling, and community clean-up efforts. Through short-form digital storytelling, students from ages 13 – 17 years old will have the opportunity to demonstrate environmental leadership, influence positive behaviour change, and inspire their peers and communities to take meaningful action towards building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Fiji.
i) Reel theme: “Reel real action for cooler and cleaner communities”
ii) DOs:
- Parental/ Guardian consent via the attached consent form and provision of Birth Certificate or evidence of Guardianship
- One entry per participant
- 30 – 90 second video
- Vertical Orientation – 9:16 aspect ration
- Resolution: HD 720p or 1080p
- Clear audio and stable footage
- Originality:
- 100% original, unpublished and created by the participant
- Creativity:
- Relevance to the theme
- Community messaging that is relevant for all audiences
- Participants may use music, voice covers, captions, transitions, and basic editing effects
- Participants may create and submit their reels in any language.
- Must be within the ages from 13 – 17 years old
iii) DONTs that will automatically cause disqualification:
- Do not copyright and/or plagiarize
- No dangerous stunts, risky behaviour and/or inappropriate content including but not limited to use of vulgar language and signs
iv) Judging Criteria:
- Creativity and originality – 25%
- Relevance to theme – 25%
- Storytelling and impact through messaging – 25%
- Overall impression – 12.5%
- Technical quality (includes but not limited to audio and visual, editing and inclusive) – 12.5%
v) Prizes:
- 1st Prize – $300
- 2nd Prize – $150
- 3rd Prize – $100
